About Us

Making historical language accessible to everyone — free, open, and AI-powered

Our story

Translator Old English began in 2023 as a small project by linguists and developers who wanted Shakespearean, medieval, and Anglo-Saxon English to be as easy to use as any modern translator. What started as a single Old English tool grew into a platform used by writers, students, game developers, and teachers worldwide — always free, always in the browser.

Who we are

We are a specialised language tool team of linguists, developers, and history enthusiasts. We believe historical languages should be accessible to everyone — not only academics. Our platform focuses on Old English in Early Modern, Middle, Anglo-Saxon, and simplified archaic styles.

Parent company

Translator Old English is operated by Old English Language Tools LLC, a United States–based company focused on free historical and modern language translation software.

Our mission

Our mission is to democratise access to language — historical, ancient, rare, and modern. By making these tools free and accessible, we support writers, students, educators, researchers, and curious learners everywhere.

What our users say

“The Shakespeare style saved hours on my historical novel dialogue. Accurate and instant.”

— Historical fiction author

“We use it for RPG quest text. Players love the archaic flavour without hiring a consultant.”

— Indie game studio

“My students finally understand how Middle English differs from Old English. Brilliant teaching aid.”

— University lecturer

More about our project

Built for learners and creators

Translator Old English exists to lower the barrier between modern English and historical or specialised forms. We combine linguistics-informed prompts with a simple interface anyone can use in seconds.

The platform grows through user feedback. If you spot an error or want a new feature, email us from the contact section on this page.
